MY HOMETOWN
The ALASKA of BATUJAMUS

Assalamu’alaikum wr. wb.
Good morning, friends. How are you ?
Now, I will tell you about my place or my village, that is Batujamus. Really, I come from Wonogiri regency, but now I live in Batujamus with my familyBatujamus is one of the countryside in Kerjo sub-district, Karanganyar regency, Central Java.
Batu is stone and jamus is jewellery. So that we can say, if we live in Batujamus is like life in a palace that is full of jewellery, so happy and peacefull place.
Batujamus or Kerjo sub-district is about fifteen kilometers from the downtown of Karanganyar to the north side. Kerjo sub-district border on Mojogedang sub-district at the west, Jenawi sub-district at the east, Ngargoyoso sub-district at the south and Kedawung sub-district at the north.

Batujamus is located about five hundred meters from the depth of the sea (of above sea level), so you can feel the cold air in Batujamus..
Because of the weather, you can find various plants type that can grow at that height. For example, if you visit my hometown, you can find several place of the rubber forest.
In Javanese we always say the forest is ALAS and the rubber is KARET. So our society call the rubber forest is ALASKA from the acronim of ALAS KARET.

You can see the rubber forest in many place of certain roadside, like the road from sub-district of Mojogedang to my house, from sub-district of Jenawi, from sub-district of Ngargoyoso, from sub-district of Karangpandan, and from sub-district of Kedawung -Sragen regency-, or along the street to my workplace in Senior High School of Kerjo. All of them are full of rubber forest or ALASKA. So, the background of our school is a great rubber forest!
In the rainy season, when the fruits season comes, Batujamus will be come more beautiful place, because that place will be full of the various fruits merchant.
The fruits like rambutan, durian, and orange are sold alongside that forest.
Beside that, we also find the coconut ice and pure honey too. That is so sweet and fresh. Pure from the farmer who live near the forest.

But that’s not my neighbour’s job during the season, because their real job is the worker in the rubber factory of PT. Perkebunan Nusantara Nine. It is one of the state company, that’s manages the result of garden, especially the rubber.
If you visit to my house, I will take you to visit this rubber factory too. Not like the factory in the downtown, the rubber factory is so beautiful place with a good sight. No air pollution. A rubber factory is like a tourism place. Full of multi various old plants, like pala (pepper), kayu manis, matoa, and the other scarce plants.
This factory uses a Kolonial Belanda’s system, like a name of their manager, they call it an administrateur, and about their buildings, they still use a Britanian architecture too.

Maybe this is only the one of this factory’s shortage : if we are passing the rubber factory or our house is near the rubber factory, we will get not good smelt for the day by the day, that is so sting smelt! That smelt comes from the raw rubber. But it is not a problem to my family, my neighbour or our society. They neglect that smelt because that fabric is their life source. They can get some money from it.
Now I will tell you about the interesting place for have meals, you can find in it my village too. We usualky call it with a Pemancingan. We have Pemancingan place in Ganten Permai I, II, III, IV and the others, that’s full of delicious fresh-water fish food like gurami, nila, lele and a traditional beverage/drink like coconut ice with Javanese sugar, beras kencur ice, or asem ice.

The sub-districts that’s border with Kerjo, like Mojogedang sub-district, Jenawi sub-district, Ngargoyoso sub-district and Kedawung sub-district have a tourism places too.
The sub-district of Mojogedang has two swimming pools area. The sub-district of Jenawi has a tea forest and a Hindu’s temple said Cetho. In the sub district of Ngargoyoso has Sukuh temple, Pelanggatan temple, Jumog waterfall, a long tea forest and tea factory at PT. Perkebunan Nusantara Nine too.

I believe, the Jumog waterfall that’s locates in Ngargoyoso Sub-district will be come the competitor of Sewu waterfall in Tawangmangu. Let’s see..
And the special water tourism location is the sub-district of Kedawung in Sragen regency, that has Botok and Brambang beautiful lakes or dams?..he..he. That are the pictures :

That’s it!! They are not the all of tourism places in our regency. It just in Kerjo sub-district and around it.
I think it is enough for me to tell you about my hometown. Now, don’t forget to spend your time to visit us!!! You can visit us and take home a fresh and a happy feeling!!
